The University Motto was drafted by the 3rd Chancellor Liu Zhen and was approved in the 27th executive meeting on 20 February 1952. It was the hope of Chancellor Liu that students would be able to implement these four words pragmatically in both the cultivation of their minds and in their daily lives, such that they will set an exemplary reputation for the school and furthermore, achieve the betterment of society.

	"Sincerity": do not be hypocritical, do not be oppressive or insolent, in everything, be fair from the beginning to the end and always strive to uphold the good.
	"Integrity": always be fair, never be unjust. Do everything with openness and candor, determination and steadfastness.
	"Diligence": do not be lazy, do not follow without thought. Strive and persevere in everything and never give up.。
	"Simplicity": do not be wasteful, do not be frivolous. Do everything simply with modesty, be conservative and restrained.
