梁實秋 Liang Shih-Chiu, pseudonym Jun Mo, former name Liang Zhi-hua, pen names Zi Jia, Qiu Lang, Cheng Shu. His family originated from Hang (now Yuhang), Zhejiang Province. He was born in Beijing. In 1923, he went to study in the U.S., and received a D.Phil. degree from the Department of English of Harvard University.

Liang began teaching in the Department of English, NTNU, in 1950, and served as department chairman, director of the research institute, and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He retired in 1966. In his 16 years of service to NTNU, he established the English examination system, wrote and edited English text books, founded the English Language Training Center, Mandarin Training Center and the Graduate Institute of Chinese.

He was a renowned Chinese prose writer, scholar, literary critic, and translator. His timeless works of prose are thought-provoking and humorous. His written translations were fluent.

He was a Taiwanese authority on the study of Shakespeare and was awarded the National Literary Award.
